FAQs about hotels in Ghent

A Historical, Cultural and Culinary Gem

Located in the Flemish region of Belgium, the beautiful medieval city of Ghent is a city of history and romance. It's full of hidden historical, cultural and culinary gems that you can easily discover.

The Gravensteen or "Castle of the Count" is a deceptively enchanting sight dating back to the Middle Ages. Constructed by Philip of Alsace, the count of Flanders, it's partially surrounded by a moat and beautifully restored, and hosts an interesting museum about the history of prison life.

Part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, the Belfry of Ghent is a medieval tower overlooking the Old Town centre. Saint Bavo Cathedral and Saint Nicholas' Church are the city's other two towers, with St. Nicholas' Church being one of the oldest landmarks in Ghent.

Enjoy a relaxing walk in the picturesque medieval streets and stop at one of the charming traditional restaurants for Belgium beer and a classic Flemish meat stew with French fries. Local delicacies include the popular Belgium chocolate and the purple jelly-filled candies called the "noses".

Antwerp International Airport is 32 miles away, while Brussels Airport is 34 miles. Just book your hotel, guest house, apartment, or B&B through Booking.com and discover everything this stunning city has to offer.

There is so much to see and do in Ghent - we spent 6 nights.

There is so much to see and do in Ghent - we spent 6 nights. August trip - right in the middle of peak tourist season, but the city seemed to be able to cope with this. We had an apartment of the edge of the 'low emissions zone', and we walked everywhere. To see everything, the 'Ghent citycard' from the tourist office is a must - the price was EUR 48 (valid for 72 hours) but we used EUR 85 worth of value each. The first day was spent just getting a feel for the place - the Friday Market square, Fish market, Gravenstein, the river, etc. Walking trip to start with, then followed by an hour long boat trip, Really worth seeing the city from 'both sides'. Gravenstein electronic guided tour was a standout - one of the best systems I've encountered and narrated by a local comedian (two shows for the price of one). The 11 am Sunday tour of the two 'city palaces' is also a 'must' - and our guide was really informative - the tour was meant to be 1 hour but we almost went for 2... (and it was free - just have to book your place). Belltower is really good as well with great views over the city. Now, the food - 'food street' - restaurant after restaurant and every cuisine you can imagine - in fact finding Belgium food is the hardest part :-) Belgium beer in the afternoon while watching the boat traffic and the poor tram drivers trying to drive through the busy streets - magic.

An ancient and confusing city with probably not a good blend between medieval, contemporary and modern buildings. Still fashionable if you have the time to walk around with plenty of venues where to spare time and relax. Be aware, there are sections of the city which you don’t want to take your kids, like in Amsterdam ! Would recommend a good plan before going, parking is expensive , many places have no proper clean up by city services so you will see piss in the walls and litter in many corners, as well as chewing gum spots, etc.

Really I was shocked at the amount of not just litter but dirt everywhere I looked. There was a city charge included in our bill, all I can say it certainly wasn't used by the hygiene department. Really it was frightening to be honest. We took a trip to Brugge and the different startling. On leaving, the train station was so bad bins overflowing to athe extent that there was a mountain of waste on either side. Dreadful.

We had 2 full days out in the wonderful, wealthy city during the famous Gent festival (Ghent in English) 1.5 million visitors over the festival days. We were overwhelmed by so much magnificent architecture and stunning buildings. The boat trip was a great experience and the whole festival and carnival set up was magical. Definitely coming back.

The property was built in 1593 by a Spanish marquis, who traded nearby. This fact alone would be enough to impress me, but in addition the staff is very friendly, the interior makes you feel like you're visiting a nobleman, and the location could not be better. I spent around 20 days travelling in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, and Ghent was the city that impressed me most. Erasmus Hotel was one of the reasons for it.

I liked the fridge and small kitchenette in the room. It was a nice modern facility. It was good to be able to do laundry at the hotel. Nice seating areas downstairs at reception. It was a 20 minute walk to the town centre. It was great having Ghent Dampoort train station a 5 minute walk away we used that station to visit other places in Belgium, you just had to change at St Pieters in Ghent.

Excellent location. Well run hotel. Good efficient and friendly staff. Decent sized, clean, attractive and well designed room which was nice to be in. Breakfast good, wide range of choices. Slightly quirky hotel based on a Comic Art theme ( Big in Belgium) but all the better for having character rather than being soulless.
